Asafoetida Ferula assafoetidaBack
Asafoetida, also known as Hingu, in Indian traditions is the collected resin from the root exudate of a tall herb from the same family as Fennel. The plant originates primarily from Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Asafoetida has a characteristically pungent smell and has been nicknamed as ‘devil’s dung’. It is a spice regularly used in Indian cooking to alleviate ‘delli-belly’ and ‘bean-bloat’ and is commonly blended with rice or fenugreek so that it can be used as a powder. Its in our After Dinner capsules.
Folklore suggests that this spice is highly protective and was traditionally used to protect newly born babies and keep them healthy.
