Cloves Syzygium aromaticum

Cloves are the aromatic dried un-opened flower buds of an evergreen tree that is native to the Island of Moluccas in Indonesia but is now cultivated throughout tropical Asia.  The flower buds are initially a pale green colour and then gradually develop into a deep, strong red colour, at which point they are ready for harvesting and drying.

Clove trees can live for very long periods of time and the oldest clove tree has been dated back 400 years!

Cloves have been used therapeutically for thousands of years but most predominantly in dentistry. In China, courtiers would keep their mouths fresh with cloves so that they did not offend the Emperor when addressing him. If you don't want to offend your Emperor drink some Revitalise Tea.
