Give back to yourself

When we set ourselves goals to meet, we’re often telling ourselves subconsciously that we’re not quite good enough as we are.

Instead, take time to give back to yourself; create more time, nurture what’s important to you and ultimately reconnect with yourself. Here are some simple steps to help with this.

Creating space for you to flourish

We all know that when we take time for ourselves to do the things that we enjoy, things that help us to de-stress, unwind and rejuvenate, it helps us to renew, heal, and create reserves of energy and peace.

Although ‘time for me’ very easily gets eaten up by other commitments, there are ways to make ‘me time’ a reality and priority:

What would you like to do? – If you had five minutes, a free afternoon or no weekend plans, what would you do to make yourself feel rejuvenated, relaxed and happy? Write these ideas down and then schedule time in your calendar for as many as you can.

Create a daily ritual for yourself – Meditation, a bubble bath, short walk in nature, or simply snuggling up with a warming cup of Pukka tea; these are the moments that matter.

Say yes a little less – Saying yes can be good, except when you never say no and everything piles up. Saying yes a little less can help simplify your life and allow more time for you.

Nurturing loving relationships

Although they often require time, patience and sometimes compromise, strong, healthy connections with others provide us with great joy and happiness and provide a deeper sense of both physical and spiritual well-being.

A proper belly laugh, loving connection, great big hug, or even a shoulder to cry on. These supportive relationships will often be the foundations that help us realise and fulfil our full potential.

Reconnect with yourself

The ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, teaches that learning to listen to your own body is where to start when trying to create balance and wellness in your own personal health and happiness.

Although we’re all beautifully unique and there are as many constitutions as there are people, Ayurveda divides us into three main constitutional types, Vata, Pitta, Kapha (otherwise known as ‘doshas’).

Following a path in life that is guided by your own intuition can teach you intimate and important things that no-one else can.

That ‘inner voice’ that just knows, can help alert us to people, circumstances and lessons in life that we may find uniquely fulfilling.

It can be difficult, but by quietening your minds inner critic and taking time to listen to the heart, you’ll be amazed by the realisations you will have.

Setting your intentions

Setting yourself positive intentions can be the fuel you need to help you move forward with your goals and dreams in life.

These intensions only need to be small, achievable goals that you can set yourself each day. Imagine that the intention you set is a seed that you’ve sown, and that you have total faith will sprout and flourish.

Intentions that you could consider to help you reach your fullest potential could be:

  • I will make time for myself
  • I will love my body with healthy, nourishing food
  • I will take time to tell one person in my life how important they are to me
  • I will disconnect from my electronic device this evening
  • I wake early and take time to enjoy my morning
  • I will open my heart and mind to learning new things today

Even if your long-term goal is unclear, achieving these small steps each day will help bring positivity, clarity and confidence in the direction you are moving in.

Remember that this is about you reconnecting with you, so be sure to take time to do what makes you happy and healthy.
